Lyle “Shorty” Sherwin Souders, age 75, passed away at his home in Warfordsburg, Pa., on Thursday, May 4, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Born October 26, 1941, in McConnellsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Claude and Goldie (Cooper) Souders.

Lyle was a certified welder and retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, near Chambersburg in Franklin County, Pa.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years.

He was a member of the VFW Post 655, in McConnellsburg, Pa.

Lyle is survived by four sons, Steven Souders and his wife, Karen, Darren L. Souders and his wife, Dawn, Patrick Souders and his wife, Chera, and David Souders, all of Warfordsburg, Pa.; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edgar Souders  and Jay Souders; and three sisters, Betty Huffman, Patricia Hazlin, and Rosaline Carbaugh.

In addition to his parents, Lyle is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lee Souders,  whom he married on December 24, 1961, and who died November, 2015; his stepmother, Anne Souders; a daughter, Stephanie Lee Souders; four sisters, Alice Strait, Edna Sipes, Helen Schetrompf and Faye Knepper; seven brothers, Ray Souders, Calvin Souders, Blaire Souders, Grover Souders, Tom Souders, Jerry Souders and Carl Urban.

The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock, Md., on Monday, May 8, 2017, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., in the Mays Chapel Cemetery, in Warfordsburg. Rev. Delmas Bard will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post 655.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. 21750 to help with the funeral expenses.
