    Richard John Jeffries, age 73, of Hedgesville, W.Va., passed away at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, in Martinsburg, W.Va., on Friday, December 15, 2017.

    Born Tuesday, September 19, 1944, in Midland, Md., he was the son of the late John and Edith (Elliott) Jeffries.

    He was raised in the Methodist faith.

    He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and proudly served in the Mediterranean during the Vietnam war.

    His life-long career was in construction, working as a mason.

    He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and exploring; he was interested in Native American culture in the surrounding area; and he loved music.

    He is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Malin and her husband, Charles, of Hedgesville, and Lois Keifer and her husband, Paul, of Midland, Md.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Jeffries.

    A service of interment will be held at the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, in Flintstone, Md., on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.

    Arrangements were handled by the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock, Md.
