Wesley Ryan McDermott, age 23, of Hancock, Md., passed away peacefully at his home after a hard fight with Mitochondrial Encephalopathy. God sent His angels to take our angel home on Tuesday, December 12, 2017.
Born Thursday, August 11, 1994, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of Patricia Boyer Folk, of Martinsburg, W.Va., and the late Steven E. McDermott.
He was a 2013 graduate of Hancock High School. He was a member of the 4-H Club, and the Cub Scout Pack, of Martinsburg, W.Va.
Wesley was on the Hancock Unified Bocce Team when they won three Washington County Championships and the 2013 Maryland State Championship. He was a member of the Hancock Track and Field team, and a manager of the Hancock High School Varsity basketball team.
He loved going to the movies with Grammy Jenny and Pappy Paul; loved to fish; tubing on the river; camping, where he was called Pappy’s shadow; and he also had a passion for music. He loved going with friends to the Pizza Hut; loved to eat at McDonald’s; Gordon’s Cruise-In french fries; and Park-N-Dine, where he ate grilled cheese sandwiches. He loved animals; had a great sense of humor; and he always attended the Community Rescue Service banquet with the old volunteers.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by grandparents, Carolyn and Ronald Barkdoll, of Hancock; grandfather, Ronald McDermott, of Hagerstown, Md.; grandparents, Paul and Virginia Boyer, of Williamsport, Md.; a sister, Makayla McDermott, of Hagerstown, Md.; four uncles, Brian Barkdoll, and Scott M. Barkdoll, both of Clear Spring, Md., Eddie Barkdoll, of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Matthew Boyer, of Inwood, W.Va.; step-mother, Melissa McDermott, of Hagerstown; step-father, George Folk, of Martinsburg; two aunts, Kathy Long and Susan Howard; and cousins, Ronda and Mike Poffenberger, and Morgan, Alyssa and Dylen Barkdoll,
Funeral services will be at the Hancock United Methodist Church, 170 West Main Street, in Hancock, on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 12:00 noon. Pastor Joshua D. Rider will officiate. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery, in Hagerstown, Md. The family will receive friends at the Church two hours prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
