     Helen V. McCarty, age 84, of Rice Road, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Fulton County Medical Center Extended Care.

     Born October 5, 1925 in Berkeley Springs, WV., she was the daughter of the late Ira and Flossie Crouse Henry and the widow of Robert E. McCarty, Sr., who died in 1994.

     She was retired from Londontown Manufacturer, formerly in Hancock, MD., and had previously been employed by Rosen's Dept. Store and Sheetz in Hancock, MD.

     She was a member of the Red Hat Society.

     She was a member of Hancock United Methodist Church.

     She is survived by one son, Robert E. "Bob" McCarty, Jr. of Hancock, MD.; also six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, James P. McCarty, who died in 1993.

     A service will be held Friday, July 30, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, MD. Rev. Roger Truax, Rev. Edward Guyer and Rev. Richard Bernhard will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, MD.

     The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening 6-8 p.m. For the convenience of family and friends the funeral home will be open 2-8 p.m. on Thursday.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Mrs. McCarty made a tremendous impact on the Hancock Community and will be sadly missed but never forgotten. May God comfort you in your time of need and always.

My thoughts and prayers are with Helen's many loved ones, friends and acquaintances at this sad time. It was a blessing to have met and come to know Helen in recent years. A humble, caring, good soul who brought out many morning smiles!
