Betty Christine (Divel) Manning, age 79, of Hancock, Md., passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 after a short battle with cancer.

Born Sunday, June 5, 1938, at the Russell and Edna Divel farm in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Marshall E. Divel, Sr. and Elsie B. (Stephens) Divel, and the stepdaughter of the late Helen E. (Shank) Divel.

Betty is survived by her devoted husband of more than 60 years, George Kelly Manning, Jr., whom she married November 9, 1956.  She is also survived by their five children who faithfully cared for her in her final days; Vicky Lynn Rollins and husband, Larry, Kelly Van Manning, Lydia Renee Manning, and Jeffrey Lane Manning and wife, Lisa, all of Hancock, and Cindy Lou Boyer, of Williamsport, Md.; twelve grandchildren, Adam Rollins, Tim Rollins, Julie Zies, Wayne Keefer, Dylan Keefer, all of Hancock, Amber Canfield of Hedgesville, W.Va., Georgia Bain, and Tanner Manning, of Hancock, Jerrett McCormick, of Hagerstown, Md., William Boyer, of Wilmington, N.C., and Chesney Sydnor and Levi Sydnor, of Williamsport, Md.; eight great-grandchildren, Sunni Schriver, Emma Schriver, Lincoln Bender, Leland Bender, Blake Keefer, Alexis Canfield, Easton Bain, and Baby Boyer on the way; and three brothers, Lloyd, Kenneth and Roger Divel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Marshall, Herbert, Robert and Carroll Divel.

Betty was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church.

She was a homemaker and worked as a caretaker for many elderly people in Hancock. She enjoyed planting flowers and feeding wild birds. Her favorite hobby was camping, and she particularly enjoyed the Saunderosa Park, in Mercersburg, Pa.

Funeral services and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Buck Valley Church, 2281 Harmonia Road, in Warfordsburg, Pa.  Pastor Scott Gibbs will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742, for the exceptional care they provided, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, her favorite charity, at P.O. Box 2151, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn. 38102.
