Edna Maxine Divel, age 99, returned to her Heavenly home on Sunday, July 23, 2017, surrounded by her family. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her 99 years of life and gave her peace as she entered into her eternal home.

Born on October 4, 1917, in Hancock, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clyde Berman and Ila Jessaline (Effland) Hixon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Russell James Divel, who passed away on November 1, 2003.

She was a member of Catalpa United Methodist Church, in Hancock, her entire life, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a graduate of Tonoloway School, near Hancock, and a member of The Hancock Historical Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Joann Santor, the widow of Bernard Santor, and Jeanie Corbett and her husband, Donald, all of Hancock; one son, Leroy Divel and his wife, Ruthie (Harvey); one sister, Wanda J. Donegan, of LaVale, Md.; ten grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and eighteen great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Coffman, Alta Miller, and Marion Mellott; and two brothers, Berman Lee Hixon and Robert Hixon.

Services will be held on Wednesday July 26, 2017 at the Warm Springs Baptist Church, 3683 Pious Ridge Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Rev. Dr. Steve Corbett, Rev. Robert Burton and Rev. Joshua Rider will officiate. Burial will follow in the Catalpa United Methodist Cemetery, in Hancock.

The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, on Tuesday, July 25, from 2 until 4:00 and 6 until 8:00 p.m., and at the Church one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

The family would like to give a special “thank you” to her caretakers, Steven and Anna Corbett.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the Catalpa Cemetery Fund, PO Box 165, Hancock, Md. 21750; The Hancock Historical Society, PO Box 164, Hancock, Md. 21750; or to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave. Hagerstown, Md. 21742, in gratitude for their excellent care.
