George Robert (Bobby) Kirk, age 80, died on Sunday, January 31, 2016. Born on November 24, 1935, in Warfordsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert George Kirk and Fairy (Vangosen) Kirk.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Ann (Gordon) Kirk, of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sisters, Alice Layton and Ruth Smith, both of Warfordsburg; two sons, Dr. Robert Allen Kirk, of Cockeysville, Md., and the Rev. Thomas Gordon Kirk, of Redmond, Or.; seven grandchildren, Abigail (Kirk) Ryan, Ira Kirk, Andrew Kirk, Mimi Kirk, Matthew Kirk, Hillary Kirk, and Sommer Kirk; and two great-grandchildren, Dalton Ryan and Everett Ryan.

George graduated from the Warfordsburg High School in 1953. He was the Valedictorian of his class. He started a four-year machinist apprenticeship at Landis Machine Company, in Waynesboro, Pa., on June 8, 1953, and worked for that company for 46 years, mostly in the engineering department. He retired as manager of Engineering Services there in November, 1999.  He also completed a carpentry course at the Vo-Tech, and enjoyed working on numerous carpentry projects at his home.

He was a member of the Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., and through the years served in Presbyterian churches as an elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent.

George was a charter member of the Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown in 1964. He enjoyed restoring Mustangs from the 1960’s, and was a crew member on several local race car teams. He was a board member of the Waynesboro Industrial Heritage Museum.  He was a volunteer at the Renfrew Museum and Park; the Eastern Europe Aid Association; and a volunteer mechanic at Child Evangelism Fellowship.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, Pa.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 1:00 p.m., at the Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, 14735 Charmain Road, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. Pastor Carl Batzel will officiate.

There will be a time of meditation at 3:30 p.m., at the Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church. Rev. Thomas Kirk will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining Church cemetery.

The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, contributions in his name be made to the Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 582, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. 17214.
