Melvin Edward Vanorsdale, age 73, of Warfordsburg, Pa., better known to his family and friends as “Jiggs”, went to be with the Lord late Thursday night, December 14, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, in Cumberland, Md.
He was born June 21, 1944, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., the son of the late Harry and Emma (Shepherd) Vanorsdale.
He married Maxine (Ray) Vanorsdale, his best friend and life-partner, on January 27, 1964. They built their life and home in Buck Valley, Pa.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Maxine; three children, Elmer Vanorsdale, Lisa Eader, and William Vanorsdale; five grandchildren, Kayla Messner, Dustin Vanorsdale, Shawn Vanorsdale, Brittany Eader, and Branden Vanorsdale; seven great-grandchildren, Alissa, Kylie and Steven Messner, Jr., Dana, Kimmie and Cameron Vanorsdale and Brennan Vanorsdale; one brother, Donald Vanorsdale; and two sisters, Nina Widmeyer and Mary Robinson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Vanorsdale; five sisters, Rosalea Divelbliss, Margaret Stotler, Janet Mills, Emma Jean Bishop and Wanda Lou Mellott; and a grandson, William Vanorsdale, II.
The family will receive friends at the Buck Valley Christian Church, in Warfordsburg, on Thursday, December 21, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and for one hour before the service on Friday.
Services will be held at the church at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 22, 2017, with Pastor William Swope officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Buck Valley Christian Church, 2281 Harmonia Road, Warfordsburg, Pa., 17267.
