Ruth Harris

Sister Ruth Israel Harris was born on March 4, 1944, as a member of The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob to Bishop Edward Gabriel Bell Sr and Adv. Sr. Mother Leeota Wilson Bell.

She was a beloved individual and proud of her illustrious career with the US Postal Service. She began as an MPLSM operator in 1979, culminating in 30 years in executive management and the recipient of numerous awards for excellence throughout her 35-year postal career.

She loved the Church, shoes, and shopping.  She enjoyed music and was an avid piano player in her youth.  She also was a lover of words and a voracious reader.

As a natural mother, Sister Ruth taught her daughters to be kind, to be strong, to love the Lord, and to always strive for excellence. She illustrated these principles throughout her life. She taught by example every day. We were all blessed to know her as a loving mother with a brilliant mind, a lovely smile, an infectious laugh, and of course impeccable taste.

Sister Ruth was preceded in death by her grandparents, Deacon Thomas and Mother Vera Mayberry, parents, her brothers, Brothers Solomon and General Bell and her daughter Candace Camille Harris.  Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Ms.Tawnya Harris-Simmons, Mrs. Tamar Harris-Warren (Thomas) and Mrs. Camille (William) Wallace; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
