Shirley Patricia (Jewell) Northcraft Stoner, age 81, died on Monday, January 29, 2017, at the Western Maryland Health System, in Cumberland, Md.

Born on Tuesday, December 31, 1935 in Cumberland, Md., and raised in Bedford Valley, Pa., she was the youngest of twelve children born to William B. and Rosa Lee (Jenkins) Jewell. She was the widow of James M. Northcraft, with whom she spent thirty-three wonderful years and who died in 1983, and the wife of her soulmate, Richard Lee Stoner, Jr., whom she married in 1984 in Virginia Beach, Va.

She attended Fort Hill High School, in Cumberland.

She was a Methodist by faith.

She owned and operated a motel in Virginia Beach, Va. for many years, and retired in 1993.

In addition to her husband, Richard, she is also survived by four daughters, Patricia Gahaghan and her husband, Tom, of Warm Springs, N.C., Pamela Nase, of Hertford, N.C., Toyoia Clark and her husband, Brent, of Hertford, Candy Sue Ann Mariner and her husband, Tommy, of Hertford; a step-daughter, Lisa Kenammer, of Alabama; two step-sons, Ricky Stoner, of Ohio, and Douglas Stoner, of Kentucky; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bette Reynolds, of Cumberland, and Jean Cooley, of Bedford, Pa.; a brother, Darl “Ace” Jewell and his wife, Pat, in Glenview, Va.; a foster brother, Albert Earnest, of Cumberland; and a very special friend, Louise Lavelle, of Cumberland.

The family plans to receive friends on Thursday, February 2, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md.

Her burial will take place at a later date, in the Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Va.
