Beulah Joan Shaw

Beulah Joan “Jo” Shaw, 87, formerly of Buck Valley Road, Warfordsburg, PA., passed away on March 2, 2022, at the Fulton County Medical Center.

Born January 14, 1935, in Needmore, PA., she was the daughter of the late Carl and Ruth Garland.  She was the widow of Gerald W. Shaw.

Jo was a 1952 graduate of the former Warfordsburg High School and was employed as a secretary at Hoffman Chevrolet in Hancock, MD. Later she worked as a secretary at Londontown Manufacturing also in Hancock.

She was of Christian faith and worshiped at Chapel of Praise, where she held the position of secretary/treasurer many years until health issues left her unable to attend services any longer.

She is survived by one daughter, Jodi Fischer, and husband, David, of Crystal Spring, PA.; a special daughter-in-law, Pamela Shaw of Warfordsburg; four grandsons, Douglas Shaw, Jr., Warfordsburg, Dustin (wife Aimee) Fischer, Crystal Spring, Jamie (wife Leah) Shaw and Cody (wife Tiffany) Shaw, both of Greencastle; 5 great granddaughters, Daphnee Fischer, Sophie Shaw, Madison Shaw, Willow Fischer, and Lucy Shaw.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Shaw, Sr.; sisters, M. Janet Bumbaugh and N. Betty Light; and brother, David F. Garland.

She considered herself truly blessed to have come back from the brink of death in 2011 and to have had 11 more years to be able to share in important family events and to know and love her five great-granddaughters. She would tell everyone how fortunate she was to have her daughter and daughter-in-law as such wonderful caregivers for so many years. In the past she enjoyed cooking, baking and watching tv to pass the time and always said how lucky she was to be content in her home, as in her later years, she was unable to leave except for medical appointments or an occasional holiday get together.

When her health deteriorated to the point that she needed 24/7 care, she moved into

FCMC LTC. She never gave up hoping for her health to recover and that she could leave there, but many, many times she would also talk of how so many of her caregivers had become like family and took such good care of her.

Being a faithful Christian, reading her Bible was very important to her.  As her eyesight grew worse, she was unable to do that but could still quote a verse and tell what side of the page in her worn Bible it was on. It had always been her wish to have no formal services, but rather she would hope you would take that time and go visit a relative or friend that you have not visited lately so they can enjoy your presence.

I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.

I’m following the path God has chosen for me.

I took his hand when I heard Him call

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day

To laugh, to love, to work, to play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way

I’ve now found peace at the end of day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joys.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;

O yes, these things, I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow

Look for the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life’s been full, I savored much;

Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seems all too brief;

Don’t lengthen your pain with undue grief.

Lift up your heart and peace to thee,

God wanted me now-He set me free.
