Charles Thomas

Charles Vincent Thomas, 56, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed peacefully at his family home in Hancock, Maryland on January 20, 2023, with his sisters, Theresa and Rosemarie, at his side.

Born on September 4, 1966, Charles was the son of the late Dr. Frank B Thomas III and Marion Reich Thomas of Hancock, Maryland. He was the seventh child of nine children, five boys and four girls.

In his younger years, Charlie loved fishing. It brought him much joy whenever he could hold a pole in his hand, and he would much prefer for that to be daily. He also enjoyed crabbing when able and, on our family beach trips, he would delight in bringing his catch back to our rented duplex for Mother to prepare for supper. We are not sure she enjoyed it nearly as much as he did. Charlie was also skilled in hunting, and he became quite good with a bow.

Charlie attended St. Mary School in Hagerstown, Maryland. He transferred to Hancock Middle-Senior High School for Grade 8.  He thoroughly enjoyed playing football throughout his high school years. He graduated in 1984.

Charles proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1984 - 1988.  He served overseas mainly in South Korea and Japan.

He moved to Annapolis, Maryland where he began his career as an HVAC technician, installer, and salesman. He prided himself in being fair to his customers and providing the best service possible. He enjoyed the challenges of figuring out the complexities of a house system.

Charles eventually had to step away from his job and most of his daily activities due to declining health. He retained his ability to be a conversationalist extraordinaire. His many stories displayed his quick wit and one liners. He had more than one subject that he was passionate about, and he promptly shared with anyone who would listen.

God graciously gave Charlie the window that he needed to fully open his heart and soul to Him. Just prior to his passing, Charles was found in our study on his knees in front of the Divine Mercy. Jesus, I trust in You.

Charles is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Thomas, and his daughter, Angela Thomas, of Annapolis, Maryland. He loved them both dearly and every day he talked of his love for them.

Charles is also survived by his siblings, Marion Lane, of Waynesville, North Carolina; Theresa Pittman and Rosemarie Horz, both of Hancock, Maryland; Paul Thomas and his wife Kathy, of Williamsport, Maryland; Elizabeth Woltemath, and her husband, Brian, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Tania Thomas of Williamsport, Pennsylvania and Angie Thomas of Little Orleans, Maryland. He had many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as numerous extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank B Thomas IV, Michael P. Thomas and Dr. Ralph E. Thomas; and brothers-in-law Dr. Christopher H. Lane and Maxwell H. Horz, Jr.

Visitation will be at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Maryland on Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 5 - 8 PM with Recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 PM as well as one hour prior to the Funeral Mass at Saint Peter Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Peter Catholic Church, 16 East High Street, on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 2 PM.  Celebrant will be Father Alan Thomas, Charlie’s cousin, with Father Jack Lombardi and Deacon James Mason.
