Dean Smith

Dean LaFayette Smith, 95, Hancock, MD., passed away July 28, 2022, at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, WV.

Born April 6, 1927, in Cumberland, MD., he was the son of the late Charles and Ethel (Spicher) Smith, and the husband of Patricia Ann Powers Smith, who passed away March 15, 2020.

He was a guidance counselor for Washington County Maryland School District.

He was an Army Veteran having served in World War II.

He was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church; James W. Bowers Lodge 173; Hancock Rotary Club; Webster B. Harrison American Legion Post 26; and the Washington County Retired Educational Personnel Association.

He is survived by two sons, David Dean Smith, Hancock, MD., and Adam LaFayette Smith, Annapolis, MD; and two granddaughters, Alexandra Deann Smith and Sarah Elizabeth Smith.

In addition to his parents and wife of 52 years, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas E. Smith.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 12:00 p.m., at The Hancock United Methodist Church, 170 West Main St, Hancock, MD. Pastor Becki Wessinger will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Dean L. Smith and Patricia A. Smith Scholarship Fund at Citizens Bank.
