George R. (Bob) Fleegle, 73, passed from this life peacefully at his home on Friday, February 25, 2022, with his devoted wife of 54 years, Gloria (Younker) Fleegle, by his side.

Born at home in Hancock on November 21, 1948, Bob was the son of the late Emory and Hallie (Corbett) Fleegle.

He was a former employee of Western Maryland Paving and the manager of the Sideling Hill rest area for 23 years before retiring in 2014.

He was a devoted grandfather and husband and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He loved watching NASCAR, The Three Stooges and westerns.

He was a collector of die cast cars.

He was an avid lover of all things Ford, especially Mustangs. He was a lifelong mechanic. On most weekends in his earlier years, Bob could be found at the Hagerstown Speedway racing his #12 ’65 Mustang in the Roadrunner Division. More recently he raced his ’92 Mustang at Mason Dixon Street Racing. His many years of racing created many friendships.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death but a brother, William T. (Bill) Fleegle, and two sons, Terry and Robert (Rob) Fleegle.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lori Smith, and husband Darren, and George Fleegle, and wife Sherry, all of Hancock; grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, and husband, Homer, of Hancock, and Meghan Smith, and husband, James, of Arkansas, Bailey, Skylar, Courtney and Bentley, all of Hancock, Brandon, of St. Thomas, PA., and Lincoln, at home; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Emory Jr, of Hancock, and Earl, of Hedgesville, WV.; two sisters, Cindy, of Pecktonville, MD., and Beverly, of Hagerstown, MD.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob’s name to the Washington County Humane Society, 13011 Maugansville Rd., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
