Hildebert Edward Smith

Hildebert Edward Smith, Jr., Hancock, MD., passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Creekside Village in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Born December 7, 1948, he was the son of the late Hildebert E. Sr., and Mary Smith, and the widower of Mildred E. Smith, who passed away May 11, 2014.

He was a 1967 graduate of Hancock High School.

He served in the United States Army.

He was employed at Rayloc Manufacturing until his retirement in 2011.

He was a member of JW Bowers Masonic Lodge, Hancock, MD.; Eastern Star, Berkeley Springs Chapter 77; and a member and officer of the Hancock Rescue Squad and Fire Company.

He enjoyed hunting.

He is survived by a daughter, Kelly E. Powell and husband, Barry, of Hancock, MD.; two sons, Edward R. Smith and wife, Stephanie, of Smithsburg, Md., and Christopher M. Smith, of Hancock; five granddaughters, Madelyn Bowers, Dana Smith, Erin Smith, Hannah Powell and Emma Powell; three great grandchildren, Emerson Bowers, Kayla Powell, and River Neff; and one brother, Gilbert S. Smith, and wife, Bonnie, of Boonsboro, MD.

The family will receive friends, Monday, February 27, 2023, 5-8:00 pm and Tuesday, February 28, 2023, 10-11:00 am, at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St, Hancock, MD. A Masonic Service will be held Monday at 6:00 pm.  Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Chaplain Duane Musgrove will officiate.  Interment will follow service at Damascus Christian Church Cemetery, 717 Big Cove Tannery Rd, Big Cove Tannery, PA.  Military Honors will be provided by Tri-State Honor Guard.
