Joanna Komsa

Joanna Irene Komsa, 85, Hancock, MD., passed away December 30, 2021, at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, MD.

Born March 8, 1936, in Cumberland, MD., she was the daughter of the late Calvin Strawderman and Anna Carter Strawderman and the widow of John A. Komsa, Jr.

She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Hancock, MD.

She worked for a book binding company and a school cafeteria before retiring.

She loved to cook.

She is survived by one son, Joseph A. Komsa, Hancock, MD.; two daughters, Beatrice A. Scott, Odenton, MD., and Mary B. Gleason, and husband, Stephen, Georgia; one brother, Paul D. Strawderman, Berkeley Springs, WV.; eleven grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, John A. Komsa III and Jeffrey A. Komsa; two sisters, Virginia Hatcher and Hazel Jones; two brothers, Harry A. Strawderman and Richard I. Strawderman; and a granddaughter, Samantha Nicole Gleason.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St, Hancock, MD.  Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Rev. Father Mikee O. Lecias will officiate.
