Ray Moats

Hancock, Maryland

Ray Calvin Moats, of Hancock, Md., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, February 11, 2021.

He was born January 29, 1931, the son of Roy Calvin Moats and Bridget A. (Weller) Moats. He married the love of his life, Tammy Faye (Kerns) Moats on May 16, 1953.

He worked for forty years at the Western Maryland Railroad, until his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed working on cars and lawnmowers, and continued to do so for family and friends after his retirement. He loved to share the Word of God with everyone that he met. His devotion to Christ led him to a prison ministry and mission trips to other countries. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing with his wife anywhere that God led them. Ray loved spending time with “his boys” Anthony and Logan, who loved him dearly.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Terra L. Strait and her husband, Warren, of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Cynthia K. Weller and her husband, Roger, of Hancock, Md.; three grandchildren, Anthony Calvin Strait, Logan Reed Strait, and Joy Lynne Ward and her husband, Eugene, all of Warfordsburg, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Macey and Hunter; one brother, Herman B. Moats; and four sisters, Betty J. Hixon, Veriee Weller, Etta Mae Younker, and Rosalie C. Ward.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Homer E. Moats, Leroy E. Moats, and Paul J. Moats, Sr.; and three sisters, Helen Pittman, Shelva Jean Crouse, and Mary Jane Stuckey.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 15, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hancock Assembly of God Church, 431 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Hancock, with visitation at the Church on Sunday, February 14, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service on Monday. Rev.
